Thank you so much. I had my colors done in the 1980’s when Color Me Beautiful was first published. I was Autumn but the range was full Autumn. Your explanation lets me understand why some of the original Autumn colors didn’t work for me. Obviously I have to review this a few more times before it all makes sense. I finished chemotherapy a year ago and have had a difficult time finding my best look again. This should go a long way in helping me. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this, I absolutely love it! I've always loved playing with color and have just gone with my intuition, but it is really satisfying learning some of the reasoning behind why I'm drawn to what I'm choosing - and why some things have just not worked out.

Initially, I was surprised by your mention of both chocolate brown and lime green, but then I looked closer at my wardrobe and remembered past articles of clothing and there both colors were. I'm excited to wear more brown - I haven't worn much of it, but this image of the woman in an all brown outfit is so inviting.

I'm glad to hear that black actually is a viable option - I like having it in the mix, but don't like wearing it head to toe as much, but I think that's more about just loving color and contrast than about the color on me.

This also clears up some confusion I'd had around reds - you mentioned both autumn reds and true red as options for me and I've worn both, but always had the nagging feeling that I needed to choose between them to find the right color. Glad to know I can shift and play with red. Same with  jewelry - I've always felt good in both warmer metals and silver and didn't understand why or felt like that couldn't be right. Again, glad to know I can keep playing with both.

China blue is my partner's absolute favorite color on me!

I love what you said about harmonious color combinations in nature - I often look at trees and flowers and say to myself if I could just find these exact colors in a dress, I would wear it right away. Fashion cycles and thrift shopping make this challenging sometimes, but love knowing that's on point for me. And I absolutely love high color contrast and complementary colors together! Looking forward to playing more with analogous color combinations and studying the color wheel and the accent colors for more inspiration.

Thank you, too, for including the make-up part of the analysis even though I said I never wear it. In part this is because I never learned how to use it and I have no idea where to start - having this part of the analysis gives me a really clear set of guidelines if I decide to try it out.

This analysis has confirmed a lot for me, clarified other things, and just made me feel really excited about playing with my wardrobe and my future clothing choices!

What a surprise to me to be an Autumn!   I have always skipped over that particular season so it will be fun to experiment and see myself in a new light.  I’ve been confused whether I have warm or cool skin tone and I believe you also found that to be true.  Most people have expressed I look best in jewel tones so this new direction will be very interesting.  I think aging (I’m looking at 69 in a couple months) has made a large difference for me.

Anja, this is spot on! I do believe I look good with muted colors now in my 50's.  I look great in red and raspberry and when I wear muted colors I receive compliments. When I first read autumn l didn't think it was right. I would have never thought autumn but adding the soft and that does lean towards summer / brighter colors that I am drawn to it right. The color palet for makeup is spot on! I really like the contrasting coloring! Ty so very much!

This was incredibly helpful!  I have struggled my whole adult life trying to figure out my colors due to my  “neutral” skin tone. When I looked at my wardrobe I noticed I have gravitated to the correct palette. I’m excited to create more complimentary outfits and add some colors. I think combining the right colors will definitely make me look put more together. Putting pieces together that are next to each other on the color wheel will make a huge difference.  I’m so excited to explore and discover which colors from the soft autumn color palette truly suit me best.

Although my clothing color choices have naturally gone in the right direction, my blushes and eye shadows have not. I have always struggled with make up color choices since I have a neutral skin tone. I now know it's because I have been picking all the wrong accent color for my skin tone.

I have had a few hair colorists that have taken my hair to the ashy side and that always felt off. Soft warm highlights moving forward.

Thank you so much, Anja! At first I thought, no way am I an Autumn, as my Grandmother is very much an Autumn and I am noticeably lighter than her (which is why I assumed I was a Spring), but being a Soft Autumn makes perfect sense! The colors recommended are definitely the best for me.

It seems I was already doing a lot of things right: I own a lot of clothes in the most flattering colors and have even used henna in the past to make my hair slightly darker, as I do love the contrast between my fair skin and darker hair! You recommended we do exactly that, so I was happy that I wasn't completely clueless! Heheheh. Wow, thank you so much! I love the soft summer colors. I am a member of a Facebook group, and they were telling me that I couldn't be a summer because I have brown eyes, and I was like, but mine are not golden brown at all, they are really dark. They then said that is extremely rare for brown-eyed people to be summers. Do you feel that this is the case? They kept trying to steer me towards Autumn, and like you said I can wear some soft Autumn colors but not pumpkin and mustard yellow, ugh.

I really appreciate your clarity. This makes perfect sense.

I feel a whole load of confusion has been settled for me.  I spent a long time thinking I may have been dark winter because of the advice of a friend to never wear brown,  (and my own haphazard searching for the answers),  but not making use of many dark winter colours because they didn't seem right.  I tried clear spring too but that didn't quite work out either.

Today i tried a couple of darker muted browns I found amoungst the family's clothes against my face and realised the muddiness I sometimes see in my eyes cleared somewhat.  i also double checked a grey top I love to wear and realised it was casting a grey tinge on my complexion.  Funny how these things were not obvious to me at all until you clarified the season. I guess I was just far too confused.

Thank you for sending the color analysis! I am glad I asked for it, because I myself was undetermined between cool and muted summer - and now it turns out I am a light one (and I am happy with it)!

Maybe I can explain to you, why I got stuck: in my early 30ies (about 30 years ago) I had a color analysis and was judged as a summer already. But at this time my hair color was much darker, a kind of middle brown (hazelnut) with even some hints of red in sunshine and even darker (almost brunette) in artificial light (as seen in photos) and very shiny. I had it cut in a chin-long rounded bob all the years which was kind of a signature look for me and was often admired by others. I never dyed my hair because I liked the way it was naturally. So the color expert then meant I could wear stronger colors and more contrast than a "usual" summer, but staying in the palette. This worked wonderfully for 3 decades, but turning 60 I first had to change the haircut because the natural waves took over and the bob was not strong anymore. In the last 3 years my hair became lighter gradually and I became aware that my usual colors often did look so good on me anymore. I had already the feeling that i should turn to pastels and more muted tones but was was not sure in which direction. That is why I was looking for advice for the actual situation.

I like the colors you showed me and hardly can´t wait to go shopping with my regained confidence!

I realize that most of the clothes in my closet are the wrong colour.  I think I have always been drawn to colours that I like, rather than colours that look good on me.  I'm not as drawn to the autumn colours, but I agree that they look much better on me.  I've removed the worst colours from my closet, and it will take time to replace the rest of my wardrobe with colours that do look good. now everything makes sense! I was very surprised by your analysis, this was the last type I had expected. When I read „Soft Summer“ it was like: She must have mistaken me for someone else.

I´ve always thougt myself to be an autumn or winter type because of the darkness of my hair. But in true autumn colours I seem to vanish and in winter colours I am very pale.

Looking at my hairline there is no red in it. It´s rather ashy dark brown, so I will stay away from the henna from now on and turn to my natural colour again.

I am very happy - and have to change all of my clothes and makeup now. *g* But bit by bit, I first have to get a feeling for the colours. This is a very different palette than I am used to, but I´m thrilled that I now can go for the looks I always admired: Soft candy colours and a more ladylike style which is not too heavy.

There is just one question left: Do you do this for men, too? My partner is thinking about it, because he also wonders what would suit him best.

just to say I'm very pleased with the colour analysis you provided - it has already proven to be helpful. Afer a long search I finally managed to buy a winter jacket I like, in a colour I would never thought of before (eggplant) and when I tried it on I was so surprised it really suited me! The colour card has not arrived yet but I guess it is a busy period for the postal services so I expect it should arrive some time next week.

I must say I thought I would be a "soft summer" type after reading your website and doing some extra research. The new 12-type system seems so much more accurate than the "old" 4 seasons one! But the real eye-opener in your report was for me the explanation about the softness of my type (and the Summer type in general). I think I've always been trying to achieve the opposite of what you recommend, i.e. to create more contrast around my face using colours because there is so little contrast ON my face. I assumed the ash-mousey colour of my hair needed to be replaced with something more decisive, and believe me, I've tried lots of colours (dark brown, red, mahogany, blond). It was a hit and miss exercise 😉 After reading your report many things are falling into place. And after many years of experimenting I agree that the most flattering styles (not just the colour but also the intensity) are the ones that make my eyes pop without being overpowering.

The report is very clear. It's been really enlightening and fun to read my colour analysis, thank you for that!

I had you do my colours last fall - and I'm happy to report that I have been following all your advice and feeling more confident than ever!  Before, I never knew what to wear, and stuck to black, grey and white.  I also struggled with my hair and makeup.  Since I am a cool winter, I decided to embrace the natural grey that my hair was becoming and am thrilled with the results.  I was afraid I would look old, but I look and feel younger.  I also embrace more silver jewellery, and have added a bit of colour to my wardrobe with strong jewel tones.  I still love my black and feel more confident in it than ever.  Feel free to share my comments.

your color card is fantastic. I have been using it for over a month now and it is super convenient, much better than any other system I have used. I don't try to match individual colors, I hold the card against the fabric/pattern and see if there is an overall harmony between the garment and the card. It is so simple and it takes up next to no room in my purse so it is always with me, unlike fabric swatches which are bulky and you don't always have room in your bag to keep them with you for unexpected purchases. That's so exciting! And explains so much. I thought my eyes were blue, but the pics looked green to me on my phone, but I can see why you say gray.

I knew I was light (I always forget how pale I am until I see myself in a group picture), and coolish, but I am so very amused to see that my chroma is right in the middle. I could not for the life of me figure that out on my own.

The neutral skin undertone is really interesting too. I've always had trouble with that. I used another strategy recently to figure that out, and it said I had reddish brown undertones w/blue overtones, which kinda explains why I was confused.

I'm a full time student, so I wasn't focused on my clothes. I hadn't realized how sloppy I looked until I sent you that picture! I'll never be a fashionista, but I'm happy that I can go shopping and feel confident picking things out that will look better on me.

I find the suggestion to pursue muted (grayed) colors hilarious, because when we were re-painting a bunch of the walls in our house, my sister in law (a color genius) commented how all the colors we out picked had gray in them.

Thanks for your in-depth analysis which proved that I’m already picking the right colors. It helps me now to focus primarily on my colors. I knew that brown is not my thing though since I’m a queen of contrast it will be an awesome contrast using it for accessories.

I have been wanting to do this for close to 40 years now - ever since seeing my grandmother's "Colour me beautiful" book and analysis (she was a winter too).  I always found it really fascinating.  I suspected I was Winter, but was leaning towards a warmer winter - so I am happy to finally have this clarified, and am anxious to get out and try adding some new colors to my otherwise, very boring closet!  I'm already in love with the color palette.....

Wow!  I would never have guessed a Cool Summer!  I was leaning more toward Spring when I tried to figure it out myself.

Since I have started to color my hair to cover grey, my medium brown hair has started picking up red on the new growth - a common occurrence when coloring from a box - especially noticeable when in full sun.  That may be why I was confused about my actual coloring and was leaning towards warm colors.  I plan to get my hair professionally colored back to my cooler brown soon.  I have always thought dark brown hair and blue eyes to be really pretty.

Thank you for this wonderful service.  After about 20+ years of raising children and not doing much to take care of myself (obviously), I have started wearing makeup every day, losing weight, and basically trying to take care of me for a change.  Finding out what colors look best for me is a big part of me feeling better about myself.

This makes sense because I look good in black but everyone kept saying I'm an Autumn but I look terrible in those colors. Camel and ivory are two of my worst colors. Black, charcoal, pinks, blues, greens are my best colors.

I am having so, so much darn fun changing out my closet colors!! I have studied my new palette and I know it fairly well now and carry my fabric color palette card with me in my purse. I have gotten many new soft autumn colors, even if it is hard to do this time of year in the stores. Even here in California. The colors I like, such as soft dusty blues, blushes and those wonderful soft green shades I look for in thrift shops right now. I have also changed my makeup completely over to the suggested colors for soft autumn and people are complementing me already!  They say my skin looks real pretty! Yes they do!  Swear to God.  Best 40 bucks I ever spent! Thank you thank you.

I love how deep winters NEED color! I have followed a system called Dressing Your Truth and was a Type 2 - soft, subtle, and gray tone. The past week I just freaked out and yelled, "I need color!" Haha, so I'm so happy about that.

Actually I had difficulties to figure out if I was a deep autumn, soft autumn (as my hair can appear much lighter depending on the luminosity), deep winter or bright winter (I know I have brown eyes but I usually can wear bright colors).....Nothing seemed right!
Now I understand much better! And I realized (almost) all the colors that seem great on me are in fact in the deep winter color palette  (i mean black, ash gray, true red, deep red, tomato red, purple, burgundy, teal, mint, turquoise, raspberry....) or some in the deep autumn one (dusty coral, reddish rust, dark golden camel).
Thanks to your analysis I discovered hot pink would look super great on me (a real surprise!!), and I will be able to add some colors like turquoise and icy purple to my black-ash grey-navy-red wardrobe!
I also realized that I was supposed to think in terms of contrasts, and that not all colors of the deep winter will match my skin, but most of them.
The whole complete analysis is extremely useful!!

Wow, you hit it right on the button!  Absolutely, positively. While I was waiting I surfed the internet and was drawn to the colors of  soft and warm autumn and was hoping I am one of those as I feel so good emotionally in these colors.
My number one favorite color has always been teal, it is the accent color in my home. And I never have worn black, even in winter, just not me. I will go with the dark colors on your samples when they come.
